SAM RAIMI GETS IN ON THE ALIEN INVASION CRAZE WITH ‘EDF’
Sam Raimi is not one to sit idly by when all the cool kids are doing it, so the “Spider-Man” director is actively developing his very own big-budget sci-fi alien invasion movie called “EDF”, or “Earth Defense Force”.
In EDF, we open on a U.S. military operation gone awry: Sent to rescue what they believe is a sub that’s accidentally bumped into a mine in Chinese waters, U.S. naval aviators quickly wind up engaged in a dogfight with a squadron of Chinese air force pilots. Soon, planes on both sides are being shot out of the sky, but not by the Chinese or U.S. pilots — by three alien attack fighters, which soon depart and destroy many of the world’s landmarks and military installations, then vanish.
It’s a test of Earth’s defensive capabilities, and we failed. Shortly after, NASA detects a radiation signature in a nearby galaxy, indicating a far more massive attack coming in about ten months, and world leaders set about trying to create super-aircraft and weapons that can fight off the coming invasion.Raimi is developing “EDF” with “District 9″ producer Bill Block, and is currently in negotiations with Warner Bros. to make the movie.

SAM RAIMI TO DIRECT ‘WIZARD OF OZ’ PREQUEL
Sam Raimi news……he’s officially been given the reins to direct the prequel to 'The Wizard of Oz' (which up until now was a project that was still very much up in the air as Raimi continued to work on his World of Warcraft adaptation). You'll remember that this is the film called 'Oz: The Great and Powerful', and it tells the origins story of how the Wizard of Oz became, well, the Wizard of Oz. It'll track him from his days as a circus wrangler through to when a tornado brought him to the magical land of Oz. David Lindsay-Abaire, who wrote the play 'Rabbit Hole', is currently re-writing the script.
One of the big reasons Raimi wanted to do 'Oz 'is so that he could work with Robert Downey Jr., who's still in negotiations to take on the role of the Wizard (fingers crossed those negotiations end with Downey Jr. in the part). Raimi is better known nowadays for his work on the 'Spider-Man' movies, however the Raimi that sticks in my mind is the one responsible for the 'Evil Dead' franchise and the gory, gruesome images that resulted (he later turned the franchise into a parody of itself with 'Army of Darkness').

2 new "Mad Max" movies on the way
Some rather surprising news to report. They are saying that George Miller doesn't have one new Mad Max movie coming but two. Apparently they will shoot the two films back to back which surprises me quite a bit considering that Mad Max is not exactly a huge franchise or a sure fire money maker like say TRANSFORMERS is. The films star Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron. Mel Gibson reportedly passed on doing the film but there is strong rumors that he will have a cameo. Patrick Stewart is also rumored to star which would be pretty kick ass. The first film we know will be shot in 3D so here is assuming if they are shooting together that both will be in 3D

"Bubba Nosferatu" - May be coming
It has been eight years since Don Coscarelli's Bubba Ho-Tep arrived on DVD, and since then we've been hearing about casting and false-starts for the film's sequel, Bubba Nosferatu: Curse of the She-Vampires.
Ron Perlman was mentioned as a possible replacement for Bruce Campbell as Elvis, while Paul Giamatti became attached as Colonel Tom Parker. Giamatti remains as enthusiastic about the project as ever, telling MTV News that Nosferatu will definitely get off the ground -- eventually.
"We've been trying to make that for two, three years, and we're going to get it done at some point," Giamatti told MTV's Adam Rosenberg about the status of "Nosferatu."
"I'm going to f---ing break my spine in half if I have to to get that thing done. We've been trying so hard and we've had so many near-misses," he continued.
"It's almost come together like 15 freaking times and then it falls apart. At some point we're going to get that done because it's a great script. We'll get it done at some point."
The main problem is getting investors behind the project.
"I think it's just the atmosphere of movies right now, smaller movies. Nobody has the balls to make a movie for under -- it's got to be a $40 million comedy or a $200 million 'Avatar,' and that's it," he said. "Those are the only things anybody wants to make right now. Nobody wants to do anything else. Everybody's terrified of doing anything else except that kind of thing. So that movie is deemed way too bizarre and outside the box right now. Which is stupid, because there's an audience for that movie, totally."
