Welcome to Murdockinations, my creative home on the web. I’m JZ Murdock—writer, filmmaker, storyteller, and long-time commentator on the strange, absurd, powerful, and meaningful currents that shape our world.
I started this blog in 2010 as a place to write freely: about film, culture, politics, storytelling, history, technology, philosophy, and the unpredictable messiness of being human. What began as a personal writing outlet grew into a long-running archive of more than two thousand posts over many years.
Murdockinations is not a niche blog in the narrow sense. It is a wide-ranging place of ideas: essays, reflections, political observations, filmmaking notes, storytelling philosophy, humor, commentary, and occasional dives into the darker or more surreal corners of life. The through-line is simple: honest thought, creative curiosity, and a desire to understand the world and communicate something meaningful about it.
As a filmmaker and author, my work spans fiction, horror, science fiction, essays, and reflective nonfiction. I explore themes of human behavior, culture, societal pressures, and the tangled relationship between truth, belief, and narrative. Much of what I write here flows from that same creative impulse.
